SHARON COOPER, violinist and Violist, is an active freelance musician in southern and central California. Her first encounter with a violin was at age 5 when her mother, an accomplished pianist, had piano trio rehearsal at the family home. She was smitten with the violin and has been ever since. Sharon started lessons at age 7, studied chamber music at San Francisco Conservatory and holds a BA degree in Music from Stanford University. Her coaches have included Kathleen Lenski, Russell Cantor, David Abel and Jenny Rudin.
Sharon has performed throughout California, Arizona, Europe and Australia in numerous recitals, chamber ensembles, theater productions, orchestras and civic events. She has performed solo works with the following symphonies: Moorpark, Valley (LA), New Valley, Santa Susana, Antelope Valley and Crestmoor. Sharon has also been featured soloist with the Channel Islands and Palo Alto chamber orchestras, Ventura Baroque, Santa Maria Philharmonic, Symphony of the Canyons and on KQED Public Television in San Francisco. Concert series showcasing her solo and chamber recitals include the Mt. Cross (Camarillo), Ojai Art Centre, Lompoc Music Association, Moorpark Orchestra Chamber Series, and the Beethoven festival in Santa Barbara. Sharon is regularly concertmistress of Cabrillo Music Theatre (Thousand Oaks), and Moorpark Symphony.
On a lighter note, Sharon can frequently be heard on the soundtrack of Fox TV’s animated features as well as other TV, movie, original cast theater, and numerous diverse musical recordings. She has performed with David Benoit, Seth MacFarlane, Electric Light Orchestra, Hiroshima, Laura Pursell and the Riders of the Purple Sage. Her solo violin can be heard emanating from pits of musical theaters in both California and Arizona.
Sharon has extensive teaching experience in her own private studio, the masterclass forum and the classroom. She loves sharing her passion for the violin with players of all ages from early years on their instruments to experienced professionals. She assists the orchestra conductor at Moorpark College, and upon occasion works at Westlake High School (Thousand Oaks) as an instrumental music specialist, coaching chamber music, string instrument and orchestra technique.
Sharon continues to learn new skills – especially on the computer technical side of business, as she zooms through classes and back end business decisions.
