MICHELE HICKS
Michele’s violin career spans over 32 years of experience in the Los Angeles Music Industry. She received her undergraduate and Master’s Degrees in Violin Performance from the University of Southern California having studied with the late Eudice Shapiro for nine years.
Though she was classically trained, Michele has enjoyed performing in a variety of musical genres that includes rock, jazz, and country/fiddle.
For 9 years she served as Assistant Concertmaster of Asia America Symphony under the baton of 5-time Grammy nominee jazz legend, David Benoit, also having played Concertmaster for his recording sessions. She has performed solo violin in 4 different rock bands locally and nationally, as well as Concertmaster for recording sessions that included Academy awarded and nominated film composers.
Her television and film work has included playing in commercials, TV pilots, live concerts & videos for artists like Guns and Roses, Elton John, and Mary J Blige & JayZ, the American Music Awards with Rod Steward, solo fiddle playing with Lee Ann Rimes, and the evening gown portion of the Miss Universe Pageant, to name a few.
Michele’s experience with diverse artists and settings has helped to establish a holistic approach to her love of teaching.
For the past 10 years Michele has also been dedicated to in raising up the next generation of young violinists through teaching the Suzuki Violin method in her private studio. Her students span the Conejo and Los Angeles area. For years she has taught group violin instruction for Conejo School district, Education Through Music Los Angeles, the Harmony Project and Haynes Charter for Enriched Studies. In addition to private and group violin instruction, she has previously coached chamber music classes for the Harmony Project and Azusa Pacific University.
